Identify support and referral needs after surgery or during induced lactation.
120 minutes instruction + 60 minutes independent study.
Topics: Prior surgery; chestfeeding language; adoption and surrogacy; relactation; realistic goals; specialist plans and medication boundaries.
Assignment: Develop a consent-based specialist referral.
Module 02PD8 M2 Multiples and overlapping stages
Adapt logistical support for multiples, tandem feeding or pregnancy during lactation.
120 minutes instruction + 60 minutes independent study.
Topics: Individual infant plans; nutrition questions; supply concerns; rest; access; clinician-led assessment.
Assignment: Create an individualized household support map.
Module 03PD8 M3 Trauma separation and loss
Offer choices that preserve dignity during sensitive feeding discussions.
120 minutes instruction + 60 minutes independent study.
Topics: Trauma history without required disclosure; NICU separation; expressing milk; grief; suppression questions; no forced feeding narrative.
Assignment: Role-play an opt-in conversation after loss.
Module 04PD8 M4 Integrated follow through
Document an agreed support plan and confirm referral access.
120 minutes instruction + 60 minutes independent study.
Topics: Return to work; exclusive pumping; equipment access; specialist devices; care-team communication; review dates.
Assignment: Present a complex case with an escalation plan.
Final assignment
A bereaved parent asks about donating expressed milk but is unsure whether they want to continue.
Materials and preparation
