Postpartum Doula Professional Training

Who this is for

Aspiring and experienced postpartum doulas and perinatal workers seeking a stand-alone family-recovery course.

What you will learn

• Develop a recovery-centered family plan based on consent, priorities and available support.
• Demonstrate safe routine newborn care and feeding-support education.
• Identify urgent parent or infant concerns and initiate appropriate help.
• Facilitate respectful family communication and adapt support to culture, identity and access needs.
• Produce accurate care records, referrals, service terms and a transition summary.
• Integrate these skills in supervised practice with at least two postpartum families.

Entry & readiness

No previous clinical credential required. Orientation, scope agreement and current infant/child CPR and first aid before placements.

How learning works

Planned delivery combines sequenced instruction, guided independent study, applied assignments, case work and competency assessment, with verified practice where required. Online lessons are self-paced, with access opening on the date above. Live-session arrangements and practice requirements will be confirmed before paid enrollment opens.

Practice & application

20 supervised hours across at least two postpartum families, including at least 4 directly observed hours. Remaining practice follows a mentor-approved plan with prompt consultation and documented debriefs. Demonstrate parent recovery support, infant care, communication and referral. Simulations remain instructional hours.

Completion requirements

Complete all required modules, assignments and practice. Attend at least 90% of live instruction and make up missed learning; all safety and skills sessions are mandatory. Pass the final knowledge assessment at 85% with every critical item correct. Pass the separate performance assessment and portfolio at 17/20 or higher, with at least 3 in each dimension and no critical error. Final evidence must be accepted before an award is issued.

Scope & credential clarity

Provide emotional, informational and practical support to recovering parents and families. Do not diagnose, treat, interpret clinical findings or independently change feeding or medication plans.
